Art is nothing but the expression of our dream; the more we surrender to it the closer we get to the inner truth of things, our dream-life, the true life that scorns questions and does not see them. (Franz Marc )
This las month I was more into… The Free Line, if you will. My colour palette narrowed even more and my beloved chinese ink & brushpens got even more freedom. And I got another assignment, but I don’t like it anymore.
No, I finally figured it out: I ‘d like people to love (or not) my work AFTER I made it. Not asking for something like ‘two fridges talking, a dancing banana and an accordeon in the swimming pool party’… And then of course it’s not right from the first time, so ‘not a pool party, can you draw a rooftop partu and a dancing saxophone?’ No, thanks – fot me drawing is too much an ‘uitlaatklep’ (I don’t know the English word, something to relax with) rather then pleasing some ‘clients’. I love to share my work, but I’m not making it to sell or please, but just because, well, err… I need to make it. Cliché, cliché, just because I love this shit:) Of course I hope some people are touched by it. But I really understand that some really don’t like my work and some adore it. Just like I do with other artists and illustrators…
(Oh and, I sent some letters too, of course…:)
